The best way to get rid of
weeds and fertilize your lawn is to weed n' feed. There are many different kind of brands but they all perform
about the same. We like to spread this type of fertilizer about 4-6 times a year. This keeps your lawn looking
healthy and keeps dandelions from popping up throughout the year.
We like to use
a pre-emergent fertilizer in the early spring around April to keep the weeds from emerging in the first place. Then
we put the weed and feed on. This fertilizer usually is good from 30 days to 60 days depending on how
much rain we get. The more rain we get, the weaker the product becomes over that period of time.
After the 2nd
round, we put a post emergent herbicide feed which kills any remaining weeds that are above ground. We always follow
directions very carefully though. Too much fertizlizer and your lawn will look toast. Not enough and there will
be weeds all over the place. We then put on another round of weed n' feed and then follow that up with a post feed in
the fall to keep your grass healthy for the following year. I also like to put all fertilizer applications on when the
grass is wet. This allows the fertilizer to stick to the grass and the weeds to kill the weeds and fertilze the grass
more quickly.
